Willow bark dates back to 400BC when people were advised to chew on the bark to help reduce fever and inflammation.
Today willow bark is often used to treat pain (particularly low back pain and osteoarthritis), headaches, inflammatory conditions such as bursitis and tendinitis.
The bark of white willow contains salicin, which is a chemical similar to aspirin. In combination with the herb's powerful anti-inflammatory properties, white willow bark may be more effective than aspirin alone. White willow bark also has antioxidants, fever reducing, antiseptic, and immune boosting properties.
